Both men and women have a romantic streak and can appreciate little touches that enhance the ambiance of a room. Things like fresh flowers, cheap jar candles, and soft music. Whether you are married, in a serious relationship, or just casually dating, all these things can add to the time spent connecting with another person.
It doesn't have to be a special occasion necessarily either. Why save things that you and your partner will enjoy for Valentine's Day or an anniversary? Of course, it's always nice to set things up on these days as well. But one could bring up the point that the dimmed lights and the cheap jar candles are to be expected at these times. That you may even find yourself in an argument if you don't do things like these.
Isn't the element of surprise the most romantic thing of all? The feeling that your loved one is thinking about you every day, and thinking about ways that they can make you feel good. Just imagine the look on their face, coming home from a long day at work and stepping into a home lit by the light of cheap jar candles. Perhaps rose petals scattered on the floor, leading them to a hot bath being drawn for them.
Everyone needs to do these things. They are what will keep a relationship fresh and exciting. They are what will keep life fun.
If you are in a new relationship and you think that romantic gestures aren't necessary, you should consider the beauty of the experience in itself. The point of living your life, and especially living your life with someone is to make each day something unique. Putting some effort into decorating for your partner on a whim does just that.
And if you are with someone who you have been with for a while, then it is also important to do things to make them really feel like you still care as much as ever. Anyone can say sweet things. Words are easy. But it takes work to choose the right music, light all the cheap jar candles, and pluck several dozen roses bare. It takes effort, which is why it is such a powerful, yet inexpensive, simple way to express yourself to the person who matters most to you in this world.
It is my opinion that everyone should take the time to express themselves in such a way. You never know how long any relationship will last for any number of reasons. Take the time very soon to make a memory within yours. All you need is some cheap jar candles, some flowers, and a little imagination.
